Celebrate Self Love Today

Today, February 14th is often touted as the holiday of romantic love. Couples around the world exchange gifts, share in romantic plans and enjoy each other’s company. Love comes in many forms, and a partnership is just one expression. Self-love is another expression that is often put aside. I encourage you to take the time today to show love for yourself. Self-love and self-care go hand in hand. This is an invitation to really connect to your heart and embrace your soul. So often we live and care for others and put ourselves to the side, often forgetting or forgoing our own needs and desires. We believe that self-sacrifice is an act of love, but it is not.

One key ingredient in my own self-love practice is “The Five A’s”. While studying spiritual psychology at USM I understood and experienced how my outer reality is an inner experience, by the way, I took care of myself within, listening; holding space, and letting go. I learned on a deeper level how to practice the Five A’s of self-care: attention, acceptance, appreciation, affection, and allowing.

Another self-nurturing practice I have with myself is the Three S's.

Slow, Soft, and Sweet. Allowing my pace to be slow, my expectations of myself to be soft, and my inner voice critic to be sweet. When I am able to do that with myself, I am definitely able to apply it to my closest relationships, with my partner, children, friends, and colleagues.

It does not have to be complicated, but something that nourishes your whole being. Mind, Body, and Spirit. It can be a daily meditation, taking the time to journal, writing your thoughts in morning pages, a

simple yoga practice, painting, setting your bed time intentions.....whatever it is, make sure it takes into account the management of your 4 energy levels, physical, mental, emotional and spiritual to allow for a full daily well being routine. Commit to yourself that you will do this every day, for 32 days. Why 32 days? It takes a minimum of that long to change behavior patterns.
